After only a short period after the release of this review, Philips released several firmware revisions which change the drive's features. Now, the drive is capable of 16X DVD-R and 4X DVD+R DL recording.

- Improved write speed on DVD+R Double Layer discs from 2,4x to 4x.
- Improved write speed on DVD -R up to 16x (on selected media).

- Improved write quality on DVD+R Double Layer discs

We used a Mitsubishi Chemicals DVD-R disc, certified for 16X, in order to confirm the drive's ability. The drive started the simulation at 6.69X and finished at 15.98X, reporting an average writing speed of 11.95X.
