Plasmon introduces G-Series Optical Libraries Powered by UDO

Plasmon introduces G-Series Optical Libraries Powered by UDO

General Interest Nov 18,2003 0

Plasmon introduced its first G-Series optical libraries powered by UDOTM (Ultra Density Optical) technology. The new UDO libraries are being introduced at prices equivalent to those of existing MO (Magneto Optical) storage libraries, with triple the capacity. They can be ordered through channel partners immediately and will start shipping in volume next month. The new G-Series powered by UDO represent a significant step forward in optical libraries. UDO technology makes the libraries far more cost-effective than competitive optical or hard disk-based systems, and provides data authenticity and longevity not achievable with tape libraries. New Entry Level and Midrange configurations make permanent archiving affordable for workgroup and distributed computing environments. Support for both 30GB UDO and 9.1GB Magneto Optical (MO) media reduces the need for media migration.

G-Series libraries include dual pickers, hot-swappable drives and redundant power supplies. They provide excellent access times, typically about 10 seconds, are designed for minimum downtime and are available in a broad range of configurations to fit customer requirements. Models range from 24 to 638 slots, with fully populated UDO capacities from 720GB to almost 20TB.

The new Entry Level libraries have one or two drives, 24 or 32 disk slots and fully populated UDO storage capacities from 720GB to just under 1TB. The new Midrange libraries scale from two to four drives and are available in 72 and 80 slot configurations with UDO storage capacities up to 2.4TB. Entry Level library list prices start at $7,935 and Midrange library list prices start at $20,000. The new libraries complement new UDO versions of existing G-Series Libraries that span from 104 to 638 slot configurations.

Powered by UDO

G-Series libraries feature UDO drives and media. The first storage technology designed specifically for professional archive applications, blue laser-based UDO provides true Write Once data integrity using Phase Change technology. UDO also delivers dramatically greater capacity than previous optical storage technologies. 30GB UDO cartridges are available with both true Write Once and Rewritable media, with a future roadmap delivering larger capacities up to 120GB.
