Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCE) announced plans to release "Satin silver" version of the PS3 entertainment platform (CECHH00SS) in Japan in the 6th of March. The new PS3 version comes with a 40GB hard disk drive and its basic specifications include Blu-ray Disc, DVD video, and CD reproduction besides the obvious gaming functions. However, the new device is not compatible with SACD as well as with PS2 games.

The new PS3 also features an HDMI output, offering 1080p upconversion of DVD Video as well as high-definition video output (X.v.Color and DeepColor supported).

In addition, Sony will release a new "DUALSHOCK 3" controller for the new PS3, priced at 5,500 yen.
