Asus Showcases Blu-Ray, HD DVD Players at Computex
Asus showcased the BC-1205PT Blu-ray Disc drive and HR-0205T HD DVD drive for a desktop PCs at Compuitex, Taipei.
Targeting the high-end users PC users, the Taiwanese company offers the new drives as an upgrade to their current optical disc drives, adding either Blu-Ray or HD DVD reading functions.
The new BC-1205PT is a CD/DVD/BD-ROM drive capable of reading BD-ROM/R/RE media at 5x, while it reads/writes on DVD and CD media. At a price tag of $270, the drive could be an attractive add-on to your PC.
Asus also supports the HD DVD format with the upcoming HR-0205T drive, which can read HD DVD-ROM discs at 2.4x speed and it is expected to retail for $180.
Pioneer had already announced its BD-ROM CD/DVD combo drive last May, priced at $300.
Availability of the new drives will be announced soon, expected around September.
