Error Correction Tests

Teac DV-W50D

In the following tests we checked the drive's behavior while was reading scratched / defected discs. The test discs we used was the ABEX Test Discs series from ALMEDIO.

- ABEX TCD-721R

Teac DV-W50D performed quite well. By taking a look in the graph we can see that most of the red spikes are approximately at -60dB(A). The reported average loudness error was -73.6dB(A) while the average error muting samples was 1.1, a level that is normal and far beyond from audible problems in the output signal, according to EAC author. The total score of the drive is 72.1, an assertive score.

- ABEX TCD-726

The ABEX TCD-726 test disc contains defects and artificial fingerprints. Once again the drive performed very well, with the average loudness being at 63.9dB(A). The error muting samples was 36.5, an acceptable number.

- Summary

Combining the two scores from the tests the Teac drive came off with an average score of 73.4/100 using the 721R and 726 Abex test discs.

- C2 Information accuracy

At the end of the procedure we used the ABEX TCD-721R test disc with NeroCdSpeed advanced DAE quality test . The results that we took are reporting a good score of 89.4/100 while, which is a very good score.

- CD-Check Audio Test Disc

The CD-Check Test Disc is a very useful tool for evaluating the Sound Reproduction / Error correction capabilities of a CD player. The disc offers a signal combination with disc error patterns to rate the drive's abilities to read music and reproduce it completely. Five tracks on the disc contain a sequence of progressively difficult tests. These tracks are referred as Check Level-1 through Check Level-5.

The files are reproduced (played) through a software multimedia player (i.e. Windows Media Player, PowerDVD). Each level is considered as passed, if the tone coming out from the speakers is smooth, continuous without interruptions, skipping or looping. The higher the Check Level passed, the more reliable the sound reproduction of the tested device.

Each file was played 5 times. A 5/5 score donates that the file was played flawlessly without problems.

Teac DV-W50D successfully passed the first four Check Levels of the test. The fifth level includes an error size of 1.500mm which the drive ignored it 4 times out of 5. That means that the drive has a perfect sound reproduction and an excellent error correction.
