be quiet! has spent more than two decades building its reputation on one simple promise: powerful PC hardware you can barely hear. The Dark Power Pro 14 IO is the newest flagship in that lineage, and it arrives with the biggest structural change the Dark Power Pro series has seen in years — full software control via the new be quiet! IO Center app. The series launches in two wattages, 1600W and 1300W, both carrying 80 PLUS Titanium and Cybenetics Titanium certification. We're looking at the 1300W model here — the little sibling to the 1600W unit, and the one that makes the most sense for enthusiasts running a single high-end GPU (including next-gen PCIe 5.1 cards) plus an overclocked CPU, rather than the dual-GPU or extreme workstation builds the 1600W targets.

A quick word on ATX 3.1 and the 12V-2x6 connector. ATX is the design guide covering PC cases, power supplies, motherboards, and more, published by Intel since 1996. Version 3.0 of the PSU spec, released in 2022, introduced requirements to handle the transient power spikes of PCIe 5.0 GPUs. Version 3.1 followed with refinements — most notably around the 12V-2x6 connector (the successor to the original 12VHPWR), which uses shorter sense pins and longer terminal contacts to reduce the risk of a partially-seated connector causing uneven current distribution and localized heating. The Dark Power Pro 14 IO is built to the full 3.1 specification with native 12V-2x6 connectors, so it's ready for current and next-generation GPUs without adapters.

Software-Defined Control

The headline feature isn't a wattage bump or a new capacitor — it's the IO Center software suite. This is the first Dark Power Pro PSU that can be monitored and reconfigured entirely through software rather than physical switches on the case. Through IO Center (a Windows desktop app, or a browser-based "IO Center | Web" version), owners can:

  • Toggle between Multi-Rail and Single-Rail 12V operation on the fly
  • Switch the fan between a Performance (always-on) mode and a Semi-Passive mode where the fan stays off entirely under light-to-moderate loads
  • View real-time efficiency, input power, per-rail current/voltage, and fan speed
  • Track a running and lifetime power cost estimate based on measured draw (desktop app only)
  • View the unit's article number and serial number without opening the case

IO Center is also not a single-product app — it's be quiet!'s unified control hub across an expanding hardware ecosystem that includes AIO coolers, fans, the Dark Mount and Light Mount keyboards, the Dark Perk mouse, and displays like the Light Loop IO LCD. Its home screen additionally carries a customizable Hardware Monitor widget showing CPU/GPU temperature, clock, load, and RAM usage — useful even on a system without a Dark Power Pro 14 IO installed. IO Center supports full settings profiles (export/import, with per-application auto-switching), and IO Center Web runs cross-platform (Windows/macOS/Linux) through any Chromium-based browser without an account, though the cost calculator and some real-time controls remain desktop-exclusive.

Titanium Efficiency

Both models carry 80 PLUS Titanium and Cybenetics Titanium certification, with be quiet! quoting up to 94.9% peak efficiency. At 230V, the 1300W's published curve is:

Load 10% 20% 50% 100%
Efficiency 91.9% 94.6% 94.9% 93.9%

That 50%-load figure is the one that matters most day to day, since a PSU this size typically spends most of its life in the 20–50% load band on a modern gaming rig.

Semi-Passive, Software-Tunable Cooling

A 135mm Silent Wings fan is integrated directly into the aluminum heat sink rather than mounted separately — be quiet! says this makes it immune to case-vibration-induced noise — and runs on a 6-pole motor with a fluid-dynamic bearing. In Semi-Passive mode the fan stays off entirely under light-to-moderate load, only spinning up once the PSU actually needs the airflow; Performance mode keeps it running continuously for a flatter, always-on cooling curve. Published noise figures at 230V:

Mode 10% load 20% load 50% load 100% load
Active (Performance) 8.7 dB(A) 8.8 dB(A) 9.2 dB(A) 22.2 dB(A)
Semi-Passive 8.5 dB(A) 8.6 dB(A) 8.7 dB(A) 22.1 dB(A)

For context, a quiet bedroom typically sits around 20–30 dB(A), so under anything short of full load this PSU should be inaudible over case fans or a CPU cooler. See the independent lab figures in the Tests section, though — real-world full-load noise runs measurably higher than these datasheet numbers suggest.

High-Class Technologies

The 1300W uses a digital full-bridge LLC topology with an Active Rectifier front end — a step up from the analog "Active Rectifier + Full Bridge" design of the outgoing (non-IO) Dark Power 14 — which is what enables the software-adjustable rail behavior in the first place. The case and heat sink are aluminum rather than the steel used on the standard Dark Power 14, and filtering runs through 105°C-rated Japanese capacitors throughout.

Modular, Sleeved Cables

Cabling is fully modular and individually sleeved (rather than the group-sleeved cables on the standard Dark Power 14), and the box includes four different sizes of cable combs for building a tidy, evenly-spaced cable run — a genuinely useful inclusion for anyone building behind a windowed side panel.
