- Teac DV-W50D

Teac's new DVD-Recorder is a multiformat drive supporting both DVD+R and DVD-R formats. The Teac DV-W50D takes the DVD writing to a new level by supporting maximum DVD+R and DVD-R writing speed at 4X. It also writes at 2.4X to DVD+RW and 2X to DVD-RW. Thus the new Teac DV-W50D plays DVD movies at the speed of 12X. The drive is capable of recording to CD-R media at 16X speed, rewriting to CD-RW media at 10X speed, combined with a higher read speed for CDs at 32X speed maximum. The TEAC DVD±RW drive utilizes an IDE/ATAPI interface for easy integration and upgrades.

Teac DV-W50D supports writing of all DVD-R/RW,DVD+R/RW and CD-R/RW media. The drive is using a 2MB data buffer to prevent buffer underun errors which may be occurred at the writing process.

Teac DV-W50D uses the RPC II region control allowing user to change the drive's region 5 times in total. For our tests, we set the region code to 2 (Europe).

The drive supports as a reader all CD and DVD recordable/rewritable discs except DVD-RAM and CD+G.

- The package

The European retail package includes the Teac DV-W50D drive, user's manual, safety notice, mounting screws, the usual internal audio cable and an IDE cable.

Thus it contains two blank discs, an 700MB Teac CD-R and a Teac DVD-R 4.7GB.

The package also includes softwares such as Intervideo WinDVD 4 for video playback, Pinnacle Studio V.8 for video editing /authoring and the most known Nero Burning Rom.

On the front panel of the drive there is the disc loading tray, the head phone jack and volume, the eject button, the emergency eject hole and the busy/write LED indicator. On the loading disc tray you can see the DVD-ROM logo in the middle of the tray and on the right side the ultra speed and RE-writable logos while the TEAC logo is placed on the left side of the tray.

On the rear panel there are the analog and digital output (SPDIF), the IDE connector, the device jumper configuration and the power input.
