Fujitsu Introduces New Series of Magneto-Optical Storage Drives

Optical Storage Nov 8,2001 0

The Japanese IT systems maker Fujitsu Ltd has expanded its line of magneto-optical removable storage drives with two USB models - DynaMO 1300U1 and DynaMO 640U1.

Targeted at PC, Mac and Notebook users, the two models are designed to offer all the reliability and performance features of Fujitsu's earlier DynaMO SF series but in a totally new design. Both drives are just 34x122x162mm in size and weigh 630g, making them 26% smaller and 35% lighter than the previous models. Operating power consumption has also been reduced by 60% to less than 5.7W. The 1300U1 and 640U1 provide capacities of 1.3GB and 640GB respectively. Other features include a rotational speed of 3,600rpm for the 640U1 and 4,558/3,600rpm for the 1300U1, a seek time of 23ms and a maximum internal transfer rate of 5.9MB/s. Both drives are read/write compatible with ISO 3.5-inch magneto-optical media and the 1300U1 can also read/write to 1.3GB GIGMO-standard media.

The new DynaMO U1 series will be available this month. The DynaMO 1300U1 costs GBP226+VAT while the DynaMO640U1 is priced at GBP190+VAT.
