DivXNetworks Partners With Plextor and Frey Technologies to Release DivX Certified Personal Video Recorder

DivXNetworks Partners With Plextor and Frey Technologies to Release DivX Certified Personal Video Recorder

Users Can Capture, Pause and Play Live TV on a Personal Computer Without Interrupting Video Capture DivXNetworks, Inc., the company that created the revolutionary, patent-pending DivX video compression technology, Plextor(R) Corp., a leading developer and manufacturer of high-performance digital media equipment and Frey Technologies, LLC, a pioneer in the personal video recording and home media center industry for the PC, today announced that the Plextor ConvertX PVR(TM) when used with Frey Technologies' SageTV v.2.1 will enable the hardware capture and timeshifting of video content in DivX format.

The ConvertX PVR model PX-TV402U captures and encodes broadcast, cable, or satellite TV onto a computer hard drive. Users can watch, pause, and record live TV, or use an integrated electronic programming guide to schedule recordings with a single mouse click. In addition to encoding programs, movies, and sports events from a TV source, ConvertX also supports capturing home video from such sources as camcorders, DVD players, and VCRs through its built-in composite and S-Video inputs. Frey Technologies makes available the ConvertX PVR bundled with SageTV software. Users may also purchase the Plextor ConvertX PVR directly from Plextor, and buy the SageTV software separately from Frey.

"We are proud to work closely with Plextor and Frey Technologies to bring consumers the first DivX Certified device capable of both live capture and timeshifting," said Bill Holmes, Vice President of Consumer Electronics at DivXNetworks, Inc. "The ConvertX offers the flexibility, performance and ease-of-use that consumers demand."

"The high quality and small file sizes of the DivX video format makes it ideal for use in PC PVR applications," said Dirk Peters, Director of Marketing at Plextor Corp. "However, up until now, there has not been a software solution which allows users to time shift in DivX format. The addition in SageTV of DivX video capture support using the Plextor PX-M402U and PX-TV402U and the added ability to timeshift DivX video, gives Plextor users a powerful new software option."

"By adding DivX support for the Plextor ConvertX device, customers can now record high quality video and make the most out of their available storage space using two to four times less space than MPEG-2," said Dan Kardatzke, CEO of Frey Technologies, LLC. "Customers can pause, rewind and fast forward live TV and have a DivX file afterwards for playback through SageTV and any DivX Certified device."
