Speaking to CNET, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau gave some details rabout the Chinese company’s upcoming OnePlus 7 flagship before launch.

Confrirming rumors, Lau said that that there will be no wireless charging for the upcoming smartphone, adding that wireless charging isn’t "fast enough," and that the OnePlus wired charging is one of the fastest availble. However, the company is looking into ways to make the wireless charging process faster without overheating the phone.

Rivals like Apple and Samsung and other Android smartphones are offering wireless charging. Of course, wireless charging is not as exciting as it sounds, since it still requires a wire and a pad.

OnePlus is also not folowing the the foldable smartphone trend yet.

Lau said that the technology required for folding devices is still expensive and that the value to the end user does not justify the high cost.

OnePlus, which shares the same parent as Oppo, has been known for delivering a premium phone experience for close to half the cost of many high-end devices.

At MWC 2019, OnePlus showed off a prototype 5G smartphone. But no one can touch or pick up this phone — it’s in a glass box and most of it is obscured from view. The phone on display could be possibly the rumored OnePlus 7, though the company could easily release a separate device for these 5G capabilities — similar to Samsung’s strategy with the Galaxy S10 and the Galaxy S10 5G. The OnePlus 7 will likely debut in late spring or in the summer.
