Fujifilm X-T2 Mirrorless Camera Offers New Autofocus System And 4K Video Shooting

Fujifilm X-T2 Mirrorless Camera Offers New Autofocus System And 4K Video Shooting

Cameras Jul 7,2016 0

Fujifilm has announced the next line-up of mirrorless digital cameras. The Fujifilm X-T2 is the new top-of-the-range SLR-style camera in the Fuji range superseding the X-T1 and now includes the capability of 4K video. The new camera’s design is based on the same central viewfinder style of the X-T1 model. It features Fujifilm’s new 24.3 megapixel X-Trans CMOS III sensor. This APS-C-sized sensor does away with the low-pass anti-aliasing filters used in many digital cameras, thus delivering sharper images.

The X-T2’s video function now supports 4K video recording, which is a first in the X Series range. Approx. 1.8 times the amount of information needed to produce a 4K video file is captured to create hi-res videos that can also be recorded in Fujifilm’s film-simulation modes.

Operating response times have also been tightened up on the X-T2 which has a start-up time of just 0.3 seconds, a shooting interval of 0.17 seconds and shutter release lag of 0.045 seconds. These snappier response times should ensure the camera feels just like an analogue SLR. The autofocus function has also been overhauled and it’s claimed will give the X-T2 the edge over other phase-detection autofocus systems, offering improved speed and accuracy, especially with fine textures such as bird feathers or animal fur.

The X-T2’s 2.36-million-dot high-resolution organic EL electronic viewfinder (EVF) has a magnification ratio of 0.77x and a display time lag of just 0.005 seconds. The EVF refreshes at a rate of 60 frames per second, or as high as 100fps in the Boost mode, for a smoother display of movement.

An EF-X500 hot shoe flash is also introduced for the system, offering a guide number of 50 with a tilting flash head.

The Fujifilm X-T2 will be available in September for $1,599.95 body-only, or bundled with the XF18-55mm for $1,899.95. The EF-XF500 flash will also be available in September for $449.99.
