LG U+ Demonstrates 300MBps Wireless Network in Seoul

LG U+ Demonstrates 300MBps Wireless Network in Seoul

Smartphones Jun 6,2014 0

LG U+ announced has succesfully demonstrated three-band carrier aggregation (CA) of long term evolution (LTE) around its base station located in Sangam-dong, Seoul. The new long-term evolution (LTE) network technology called "three-band carrier aggregation" connects two LTE frequencies with a 10 megahertz bandwidth each to one broadband LTE frequency with 20 megahertz bandwidth to quadruple the speed. Theoretically, this enables up to 300 megabytes-per-second of data transmission. It would help Korea's third-largest mobile carrier sharpen its edge in competition with the country's biggest carrier SK Telecom. LG Uplus already has three LTE frequency channels, LG U+said.

No smartphone currently available on the market can support three-band LTE networking.

SK Telecom announced that it has succeeded in demonstrating the 300-megabytes-per-second-class LTE technology in its laboratory in January, on the same day as LG Uplus did.

Meanwhile, Australia's Telstra and Sweden's Ericsson already succeeded in demonstrating three-band LTE technology earlier in May, thus LG Uplus is not the first. However, those companies used for their demos the 2.6 GHz frequency, which has not yet been commercialized.
