Memorex Adds Gold Reflective Layer to CD-R/DVD-R Media

Memorex Adds Gold Reflective Layer to CD-R/DVD-R Media

Optical Storage Jan 13,2006 0

The Memorex new Pro Gold archival CD and DVD media are claimed to be the industry?s most durable optical media to retail, lasting up to six times longer than current discs. Following the example of Mitsui and later of MAM-E, Memorex combines a 24-karat gold reflective layer, high performance dye and its DuraLayer scratch-resistant technology to create Memorex Pro Gold Archival CD and DVD discs. The discs raise come backed by a lifetime warranty, and will be the only gold archival media available at retail in the United States.

The 24-karat gold reflective layer provides maximum resistance to aging and chemical breakdown. Memorex?s DuraLayer technology is a special scratch-resistant hard coating that further protects the discs from dust, debris and rough handling. Memorex offers Pro Gold Archival Media in CD-R and DVD-R formats.

Pro Gold Archival Media is also suited for professionals in need of a long-term archival solution for medical, legal, accounting, law enforcement or other government records.

Memorex claims that its discs are proven to last up to six times longer than traditional media with a CD archival life of up to 300 years and a DVD archival life of up to 100 years. Laboratory tests prove Memorex Pro Gold Media to be resistant to the effects of rapid, artificial aging such as ultraviolet light, heat and humidity exposure thanks in part to gold?s inert characteristics that prevent oxidation, a common cause of failure for most recordable media during long-term storage.

Memorex Pro Gold CD-R discs record at 52X speed and feature 700MB of data storage or 80 minutes of audio recording time. Memorex Pro Gold DVD-R discs record at 8X speed and hold 4.7GB of data or 120 minutes of video.

Memorex Pro Gold Archival CD and DVD media will be available at several major retailers this April. Suggested retail prices for CD-R will be $11.99 for a three-pack with storage cases and $19.99 for a five-pack with storage cases. Suggested retail prices for DVD-R will be $14.99 for a three-pack with storage cases and $24.99 for a five-pack with storage cases.
