Sony Works On 9.9-inch Flexible OLED Panel

Sony Works On 9.9-inch Flexible OLED Panel

Enterprise & IT Jun 10,2012 0

Sony has been working on a 9.9-inch flexible OLED panel, the company announced at SID 2012 last week. The company did not exhibit the OLED panel at the show as it is still being evaluated in the labs. However, information about it was showcased on a PC screen.

The device uses an amorphous IGZO TFT oxide semiconductor as a driver element and its OLED panel displays colors by using white OLED devices and red, green, blue and white (RGBW) color filters (CFs).

According to Sony, the panel has a 100% or higher color gamut on NTSC standards, it has 960 x 540 pixels, its pixel pitch is 111ppi and its resolution 110μm.

Sony used two glass substrates to attach the films. The first substrate incudes TFTs and OLED devices, while on the other color filters are formed. After attaching the two substrates to each other, the glass substrates are removed. Sony sees this approach as a realistic choice for volume production of a flexible OLED panel.
