Consumer Electronics Sep 13,2005 0

Sony has launched RDR-AX75, a DVD recorder equipped with an LSI supporting H.264 encoding. With the RDR-AX75, PSP owners will be able to easily load recorded TV shows onto their handheld platforms. The recorder can transfer recorded programs to "Memory Stick Duo" inserted in the company's PSP game console via a USB interface. An 1GB memory card is able to hold a 4 hour 10 minute video encoded at the rate of 384 Kbps.

In addition, the RDR-AX75 is a dual-layer DVD burner with a 250GB HD. The device supports a new function that enables transfering of video contant coming from analog broadcasting programs to PSP. The function, however, is not available for transferring digital broadcasting copy-once programs.

The RDR-AX75 is an analog broadcasting compatible model that supports terrestrial and BS analog broadcasting.

PSP owners who have upgraded to version 2.0 of the firmware will be able to record shows in MPEG-4 AVC format and use their MemorySticks for a fairly hassle-free transfer. The current model will be available in th eJapanese market only for around 80,000YEN ($730). Sony is expected to launch a 400GB version of this component in the near future.
