In the following tests, we check the drive's behavior when reading scratched / defective audio discs. The test discs used were the ABEX series from ALMEDIO.
- ABEX TCD-721R
Errors total | Num: 2346642
Errors (Loudness) dB(A) | Num: 125264 | Avg: -75.7 dB(A) | Max: -21.3 dB(A) |
Error Muting Samples | Num: 6856 | Avg: 1.2 Samples | Max: 582 Samples |
Skips Samples | Num: 0 | Avg: 0 Samples | Max: 0 Samples |
Total Test Result | 74.9 points (out of 100.0 maximum) |
The LG BD-RE GGW-H10N drive achieved a relatively good score with the ABEX TCD-721R test disc compared with scores returned with other drives. The loudness errors were in the main below the -50dB limit (which is the maximum limit for non audible errors according to the author of the specific EAC utility). However, the drive started reporting errors quite early.
- ABEX TCD-726
Errors total | Num: 18072
Errors (Loudness) dB(A) | Num: 4381 | Avg: -85.5 dB(A) | Max: -17.6 dB(A) |
Error Muting Samples | Num: 70 | Avg: 4.6 Samples | Max: 131 Samples |
Skips Samples | Num: 1 | Avg: 588.0 Samples | Max: 588 Samples |
Total Test Result | 68.6 points (out of 100.0 maximum) |
A CD error correction failure for the LG BD-RE GGW-H10N drive, which achieved a score of 68.6 out 100. The drive could not correct all the data for the specific test disc.
- CD-Check Audio Test Disc
The CD-Check Test Disc is a very useful tool for evaluating the Sound Reproduction / Error correction capabilities of a CD player. The disc offers a signal combination with disc error patterns to rate the drive's abilities to read music and reproduce it completely. Five tracks on the disc contain a sequence of progressively more difficult tests. These tracks are referred to as Check Level-1 through Check Level-5.
The tracks are reproduced through a software multimedia player (e.g. Windows Media Player). Each level is considered as passed, if the tone is smooth, continuous without interruptions, skipping or looping. The higher the Check Level passed, the more reliable the sound reproduction of the tested drive.

The drive achieved flawless reading only with the first track. Playing the second and third tracks produced numerous clicks on our speakers, while the playback of the fourth and fifth tracks was pretty noisy. This is below average, poor performance.
- Summary
Concluding, the LG BD-RE drive seems to have an average response to CD Errors with its error hiding mechanism at its best (as far as the 721R test disc is concerned) and with remarkable problems during the playback of the Audio Test Disc which started giving back clicks to our speakers from the second track where the artificial defects are not that serious.
