AOpen's CPU cooler captures '"Good Design Award"

AOpen's CPU cooler captures '"Good Design Award"

PC components May 30,2005 0

AOpen was awarded "Certificate of Good Design" for its CPU cooler, AC48L, in March, 2005, by Industrial Development Bureau of Ministry of Economic Affairs and Good Design Association. The main criteria for selecting the CPU cooler as a good design product was due to its "function, aesthetic value, and design process", according to Good Design Product Selection Committee, which is composed of industrial, academic, and government leaders.

The CPU cooler is designed with a special "copper skive fins" which is not available in conventional CPU coolers. The unique copper skive fins rectify and converge the airflow in a way similar to airflow is routed through an airplane turbo engine. With such airflow routing, the thermal performance of AC48L doubles that of a conventional CPU cooler.

Another feature of the CPU cooler is the copper fins are cut from a solid square copper stock and formed into layers of fins rather than welded onto a copper base. Such a process leads to outstanding thermal performance because the molecular arrangement of the fins is much better than conventional heating-dissipating fins welded together. Moreover, the molecular density of the AC48L copper fins is denser than the aluminum fins used for making conventional CPU coolers.

A third feature of AC48L is that it is designed to providing cooling for both Intel and AMD CPUs. In order to fit with various CPUs, it is designed for easy installation and disassembly. The edges of the cooler are polished so that it prevents users from being cut inadvertently.

In order to design high performance CPU coolers which can meet the most stringent environment-friendly, functional, recycling, noise-free, and pollution-free specifications of industrialized countries such as Japan, Germany, and the U.S., AOpen built a Thermocline wind tunnel in its lab and acquired UL, TUV, and other industrial standards.

Gaming enthusiasts and power users prefer to install the CPU cooler in a housing with a window which can show the CPU cooler. The fan and the copper fins of AC48L CPU cooler is enclosed in the airflow guide, which comes in simple but aesthetic design.

When the CPU cooler is installed on an AOpen motherboard built with proprietary firmware, which can forecast CPU loading and adjust the fan speed accordingly, the fan speed varies from 1800 rpm to 3600 rpm. When the CPU loading is high, the fan speed steps up automatically. When the CPU loading is low, the firmware will reduce the speed automatically. As a result, the CPU cooler will help consume less power and generate less noise.
