- CD Format

The AOpen DUW1608/ARR supports up to 48X reading speed for CD-R media and 32X for CD-RW media. Below are the transfer rate graphs, where we compare its performance against the other three drives:

As we can see from our tests, with CDR/CD media the drive is among the fastest in the comparison. Using CDRW media, the DUW1608 was significantly faster.

- DVD Format

With Single Layer media, the AOpen DUW1608/ARR and the other drives in the comparison were very close, the speed differences were marginal.

The first layer of an OTP dual layer DVD-ROM is read exactly the same way as the first layer of the PTP disc we tested previously. The difference here is the reading strategy of the second layer of the disc. The beginning of the second layer is located in the outer part of the disc, so the drive starts reading from the outer tracks toward the inner part of the disc. The average reading speed for the DUW 1608 was 6.57x and 8.67x for the End Speed, the fastest of the drives in the comparison

With DVD-R/+R media, the DUW1608 was the fastest, reaching an average speed of ~8.8X. With ReWritable media, the difference in reading times between the drives is negligible.
