Dual-Layer Recordable DVD +/-R Discs Company’s Latest Optical Storage Disc Advancement Achieves All Certification Requirements

Advanced Media, Inc., a subsidiary of RITEK Corporation, the world’s largest optical media manufacturer, announced that it has begun production for its new double-layer DVD+/-R medium. The advanced, single-sided disc has an amazing 8.5GB of storage capacity, enough for up to four hours of DVD-quality video, 16 hours of VHS-quality video, or over 120 hours of MP3 audio. Compatible with all current DVD video players and DVD-ROM drives as well as new DVD+/-R DL drives, the disc is ideal for virtually any business or household application. It is marketed under the company’s popular RIDATA brand. Shipments will begin in mid-July.

“This incredible achievement further solidifies Advanced Media’s position as a leading marketer of optical discs in the Americas,” commented Frank Yeh, VP of Sales and Marketing for Advanced Media (RITEK USA). “Double-layer technology required that a whole new set of dyes and reflective materials, as well as production processes, be developed in order to match full compatibility with DVD standards while, at the same time, assuring optimal power margins and signal amplitudes. Users of the RIDATA double-layer 8.5GB DVD disc will enjoy fast, reliable storage with a wide range of playback options.”

The Advanced Media double-layer disc has been certified to be in compliance with the DVD+R Alliance, which parent company RITEK is a member of. Additionally, the new storage medium has been quality tested by a variety of burner manufacturers and software developers, all of whom have given it their stamp of approval.

Special technology allows material to be either read or recorded on one layer without affecting material on the other layer. An important advantage of the double-layer configuration is convenience. It allows users to read, write, or view nearly twice the amount of data than with the currently popular single-layer 4.7GB DVD discs without having to flip sides or change discs.

RIDATA-brand single-sided, double-layer 8.5GB DVD+/-R disc will feature competitive pricing and will be available in various quantities.
