New CD-ROM and DVD-ROM drives by Plextor

New CD-ROM and DVD-ROM drives by Plextor

Optical Storage Apr 9,2003 0

Plextor officially anounced the new PX-116A DVD-ROM and the PX-54TA CD-ROM drives. The devices were demonstrated in CeBIT Hannover this year and their availability is expected by end of April and and of May, respectively. With these new devices, the PX-54TA and the PX-116A, you can read CD-ROMs and DVD-ROMs at top speed without a hitch. The PX-54TA is an internal CD-ROM drive with a read speed of 54x. The PX-116A internal DVD-ROM drive can operated at 16x (DVD-ROM) and 48x (CD-ROM) read speeds. The new drives are equipped with an E-IDE (ATAPI) interface and are available in white or black.

“The PX-54TA and the PX-116A form a perfect complement to our existing product range. No other manufacturer is currently in a position to offer such an extensive range of optical products, including CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, CD-Recorder, DVD-Recorder, Combo, internal, external, USB, ATAPI, SCSI and media. But carrying the largest product range, and maintaining our permanent focus on innovation, we want to further consolidate our leading position on the market”, says Patrick Peeters, Sales & Marketing Manager at Plextor Europe.

SpeedRead: speed checks!
The PX-116A can handle a maximum read speed of 48x, while the PX-54TA operates at up to 54x. As standard, both drives are set at 40x to prevent the risk of damage. A user who wants to read at 48x or 54x can do this by using the SpeedRead function.

Retail version
The retail versions of the PX-54TA (CD-ROM drive) and the PX-116A (DVD-ROM drive) are delivered with the Plextor CD/DVD utility software (PlexTools) and DVD Player software (PowerDVD) as standard. A comprehensive 16-language manual is supplied too.

The new PX-54TA is available from the end of April 2003, for a recommended retail price of 25 Euro* (excl. VAT). The new PX-116A will be launched at the end of May at a recommended retail price of 49 Euro(excl. VAT). Both drives are available via the Plextor sales channels.
