BenQ announces CRW4816P (481648), using CAV recording technology!

General Interest May 13,2002 0

BenQ, previously Acer Communications & Multimedia, brings one of the world’s fastest CD-RW’s to the market. The 48X CD-ReWriter, BenQ CRW4816P is one of the first to achieve a maximum 48X write speed and a maximum 48X read speed. In CD-RW writing, it operates with a maximum 16X speed. This is made possible by the Seamless Link III technology, already applied to the BenQ CRW 4012P. BenQ CRW4816P offers internal IDE, and maximum 48X writing, 16X rewriting and 48X reading speeds. Under optimal conditions, an 80-minute extra-long CD can be written in less than three minutes, making it the best choice for users who require high-performance writing capabilities.

For the first time, the CD-rewriter also adopts true CAV for speed control. Starting at 22X from the inner edge and accelerating at a constant angular velocity to a maximum 48X, the average write speed is just over 37X, making it the fastest CD-rewriter in the world today.

The Anti Coaster in Seamless Link III is an efficient protection means against Buffer Under Run errors. BenQ is one of the manufacturers to reduce the gap between termination and resumption points to a maximum of 2µm. This is currently the lowest value in the industry. No other technology ensures better write quality.

Having too many applications running, peripheral performance limitations and the quality of the source CD can all lead to the buffer status falling below minimum specifications and operation being slowed down by the constant cutting in and out of the anti-coaster, thus taking longer than usual. The Seamless Link III Auto Pilot constantly monitors performance as well as peripheral resource loading and simultaneously optimises writing speed to the quality of the CD being written to. This ensures a continuous writing process, which achieves better results.

BenQ also recommends that, although the CRW4816P is able to read at 48X, to truly rewrite at 48X, data must be written to a disk with 48X capability directly from the computer hard disk drive or from a CD drive with 48X reading speed.

BenQ has comprehensive R&D and manufacturing capabilities in the optical media storage field. BenQ’s determination to become the leading Optical Storage device maker is unmistakable in its complete range of products and constant innovations, from CD-ROM to DVD-ROM, CD-RW to future DVD-RW and DVD+RW, as well as other internal and external devices.
