"...Plasmon today announced shipping for its M-Series 5.25 inch MO Libraries with the new multi-functional 9.1GB, 14X Magneto Optical (MO) drives from long-time technology partner SONY. All 14X drive/media products are now available for Plasmon's full range of 5.25-inch library products. Desktop stand-alone drives as well as 14X field upgrade kits for Plasmon's M-Series libraries will also be available.

The new MOD 910 drives are backward read-compatible with all four previous generations of media (i.e. 8X, 5.2 GB and 4X, 2.6 GB, and 2X, 1.3 GB, and 1X, 650 MB media). In addition, the drives are backward write-compatible with 8X, 5.2 GB and 4X, 2.6 GB MO and Continuous Composite Write Once CCW media. The new MO drive models feature Sony's buffering/caching algorithm (8MB S-cache) and fast SCSI interface. The drives provide a sustained data transfer rate of more than 6MB/sec, a maximum burst transfer rate of 20MB/sec, with an average seek time of 25 milliseconds..." NULL
