The Noctua NH-P1 can be found online at various Amazon webstores and retails EUR/USD 109.90. The NH-P1 passive cooler is a big toy for users who know and want passive cooling. The product supports almost (!) all Intel and AMD released sockets like Intel LGA2066, LGA2011-0 & LGA2011-3 (Square ILM), LGA1200, LGA1156, LGA1155, LGA1151, LGA1150 & AMD AM2, AM2+, AM3, AM3+, FM1, FM2, FM2+, AM4 and even with LGA1366 and LGA775 with extra the optional NM-I3 mounting kit. Great choice from Noctua supporting most sold CPU sockets.

Before buying this CPU cooler its best to visit the CPU compatibility list for the best possible information. While the NH-P1 provides first-rate performance for a passive cooler, it is not suitable for overclocking or CPUs that create high heat loads. The Noctua NH-P1 (without any fan) strictly requires either a fanless PC case with good natural convection, an open bench table-type setup or a PC case with fans in order to achieve its full performance.

In our case the AMD Ryzen 5600X is supported fully with the extra NF-A12x25 LS-PWM fan (+ EUR/USD 29.90), and going totally fanless, it might fail slightly below base-clock under continues full load, we will examine this later on.

The next area users should look is the motherboard compatibility. In our case the Asus X570 E-Gaming motherboard is fully supported, no problems will be faced during system installation.

Last, users who wish to have fully passive cooling system should look for recommended cases, from various vendors like Coolermaster, Corsair, Cougar, Jonsbo, Lian Li, Thermaltake, Fractal Design, Phanteks, Silentium PC, Silverstone, etc...

In our case the be quiet! Silent Base 802 is "compatible", but not suitable for passive cooling in general (at least according to the official website of Noctua).

Other cases like the CoolerMaster SL600M provides best passive cooling performance.

The retail box is big enough

Opening the box unveils the contents, the CPU cooler is at the middle and accessories and everything is well organized and protected

Users will get inside the retail box:

  • NH-P1 heatsink
  • SecuFirm2+™ multi-socket mounting system
  • NT-H2 high-grade thermal compound
  • NA-CW1 cleaning wipe
  • NM-SD1 screwdriver
  • Fan clips for optional 120mm fan
  • Noctua Metal Case-Badge

The Noctua NH-P1 is a massive passive CPU cooler. Its height (without fan) is 158 mm, its Width (without fan) 154 mm and its Depth (without fan) 152 mm. Passive cooling requires huge block to emit produced heat from the CPU area. The weight of the CPU cooler reaches 1180gr, which is high enough. The building material are copper (base and heat-pipes), aluminium (cooling fins), soldered joints & nickel plating.

The base includes 6 heatpipes and everything is made out of copper (base and heat-pipes).

Noctua suggests for most users to add the additional NF-A12x25 LS-PWM, in several different locations according to your empty space of your case and your personal taste/needs. We will test if changing the fan produces any different results later on.
