NEC at CeBIT 2006

NEC at CeBIT 2006

Enterprise & IT Feb 6,2006 0

At this year's CeBIT, NEC will demonstrate new digital products for business and lifestyle applications. The product highlights extend from plasma TVs, through projectors to the first HD-DVDs drives. NEC will also be showcasing new designs for mobile devices, triple play infrastructure solutions and a broad range of security solutions.

One of the special product highlights at the NEC stand is the first combination drive for high-definition DVDs or HD DVDs. The NEC HR-1100A DVD burner plays HD-DVDs and burns CDs and DVDs. HD DVD media are read at 2x speed. DVD minus and DVD plus media can be read at up to 8x DVD speed, as well as rewritable and dual-layer DVDs. It can also read DVD-RAMs at 5x speed. Finally, the HD-DVD Multireader delivers a 32x CD speed as a CD-ROM drive. According to NEC, a combination device that writes CDs and DVDs will be sold starting in May.

The Japanese company has also announced its first HD DVD-/DVD-/CD burner for July. The first list price for the HD-DVD drive will be probably below the original target of €500.

Another exhibit on the NEC stand is the first HD-DVD-ROM drive. This read-only drive for the next generation of DVDs is due to be launched in March. The diverse applications for HD DVD are also the focus of a daily show on the NEC HD stage.

Celebrating its five years in the European market, NEC Germany will also showcase a special five-year guarantee on four projectors. The guarantee promotion runs from the beginning of February to the end of March and applies for the LT30, LT35, LT280 and LT380 projectors. NEC will have its entire range of projectors on display at CeBIT, including the new NP product family. Other highlights include the IF LT35, a compact projector to deliver brightness of 3,000 ANSI lumens despite weighing only 2.0 kg and the 2,600 ANSI lumen LT30. NEC has extended the LT30's guarantee to cover potential damage caused to the projector as a result of exposure to smoke-polluted environments.

NEC has also announced two new plasma TVs in 42 and 50-inch format for CeBIT. The streamlined displays have a TV receiver and XGA resolution. Another of NEC's exhibits is the 42XR4 HD ready display with 'crystal clear panel', which has an additional luminous coat to improve the black levels, double the contrast of conventional displays and 20 percent more brightness. The plasma TVs have a wide range of input ports for flexible connection to additional devices such as DVD players or set-top boxes. The integrated copy-protected digital interface (DVI) is has the same HDCP content protection that is used for HDTV in set-top boxes.

Security solutions for personal identification and the protection of security-critical zones are also in the spotlight at NEC's CeBIT stand. Quality Tool Face and Quality Tool Finger are used to analyse, evaluate and modify the quality of fingerprints and facial images. The new video surveillance system SmartCatch 2.5 holds surprises in store for the visitors to NEC's CeBIT stand. It is a multifunctional, rule-based video surveillance system for monitoring security-critical building complexes such as airports.

NEC's multi service access platform for triple play also debutes at CeBIT. The AM Series Multi Service Access Platform (MSAP) delivers Internet TV, Internet access and voice over IP via DSL.

CeBIT will be held in Hannover, Germany, 9-15 March 2006.
