JSAUX has made claims that their backshell does help/improve with the working temperatures of the SteamDeck, at least compared with the default SteamDeck backplate. For that reason, we did make a 30min run of God Of War, and with SteamDeck Tools and a Thermal Camera, we measured working temperatures at the front and back.

Shell GOD Normal Screnes GOD Max Temperature
SteamDeck Default 68 78-84
JSAUX Clear PC0106 56 70-78

The test results were very good for the JSAUX Clear Back Shell. We did notice a good performance drop depending on the working situation and workload. At normal cinematics, we got from 56 to 65 Celcius, while at intense gaming sessions, we did notice that the JSAUX had around 70-78 Celsius, while the SteamDeck with original cover did have higher measured temperatures, up to 84 Celsius. Similar results were also found with Spider-Man: Miles Morales title, so there is consistency here.

Comparing the original backplate with the JSAUX we did notice a more centered heat dispass due to the big back aluminum plate, as for max measured temperatures, we can see that there are very close.

At the front, we did notice a difference, the original SteamDeck cover showed around 47.2 Celcius, while the JSAUX did show 40.2 Celsius at the output of the cooling system.

- Conclusion

The JSAUX Clear Back Shell for SteamDeck is an "advanced" product, since it not only manages to give a unique style to your SteamDeck (from 6 different colors) but also helps/improves the overall cooling abilities of the SteamDeck by reducing 5 to 10 Celsius the overall working temperatures of the chipset, that means less fan noise and better overall performance.

The retail price of the product is around $29.99 and we feel that it was worth the money. The backplate includes an aluminum plate while it gets hot we didn't find during our gaming sessions to trouble us, since our fingers stayed away. Of course, you need to be careful but we like the trade since we got much lower working temperatures from our SteamDeck. Great product from JSAUX!
