CDSA Forum to Focus On High-Def DVD to The Masses

CDSA Forum to Focus On High-Def DVD to The Masses

Optical Storage Feb 13,2008 0

The Content Delivery & Storage Association (CDSA) organizes the first broad-based industry meeting since Warner Blu-ray announcement. For the first time since Warner Home Video announced that it would back the Blu-ray format vs. HD DVD in the so-called "high def format wars," the first broad-based assembly of interested parties will be joining together to discuss this and other pressing industry issues at the 38th Annual Content Delivery and Storage Forum, March 6-8, in La Quinta, California.

Content holders, replicators, packagers and their equipment suppliers and service providers will be attending to discuss the realities and business issues related to bringing next gen discs to the mass market.

Dieter Daum, President of Sony Disc and Digital Solutions, explains the timeliness of this year's Forum:

"Now companies can properly and confidently plan their high definition investment knowing that there are going to be mass market opportunities. The replication industry needs to gear up to take advantage of these opportunities."

"The success of format launches such as these can only take place when all partners sit together to address the business issues involved in turning it into a viable enterprise for everyone involved," explains CDSA (formerly IRMA, the International Recording Media Association) President Charles Van Horn. "The Warner announcement was the starting gun for the industry to start addressing the realities of capacity, technology supply, through-put and merchandising. The CDSA Forum is where many of these vital conversations will take place all at once and in a single place."

In preparation for the discussions, Understanding & Solutions is preparing several special "The Business of HD" conference sessions to provide a 360-degree perspective on the relevant issues of turning high def DVD into a mass-market business.

Sven Davison, VP Content Development & Production, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, will present the content holder side of the issues. Tom Adams of Adams Media Research, a Screen Digest Company and Jim Bottoms of Understanding Solutions will be presenting original research on the subject. Building the backbone of the manufacturing supply chain for the industry will be the topic of another session featuring representatives from AudioDev, DaTARIUS, and dr.schwab. The replicator view will be presented by Michael Mitchell, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Sony DADC.

Blair Westlake, Corporate Vice President, Media and Entertainment Group, Microsoft, will be keynoting this year's Forum. In addition, CDSA will be addressing other "burning topics" such as content security, digital delivery, 3D video, online gaming, and bridging together physical and digital content delivery.
