Intel has released a new graphics driver that promises to boost 4K video playback (HEVC), play VP9 videos using Chrome and expands Open CL and Open GL extension support. The new version 15.36.14.4080 driver supports the Intel 5th Generation Intel Core processors with HD Graphics 5500, HD Graphics 6000, and Iris Graphics 6100 and also brings enhancements for Intel 4th Generation Intel Core Processors. The Intel HD Graphics 5500, HD Graphics 6000, and Iris Graphics 6100 graphics cores will roll out as part of the Broadwell generation.

Benefits include addition of video playback of VP9 video format (for Chrome video playback, Google Hangouts), GPU accelerated decode of HEVC video file format including both 8-bit and 10-bit support and expanded Open CL and Open GL extension support.

The new driver package also fixes issues in several popular games, as well as a bug where the screen occasionally froze while using Skype.
