Nubia Alpha is a Wearable Smartphone

Smartphones Feb 25,2019 0

Nubia is showcasing at MWC 2019 the Nubia Alpha, a device with all the functionality of a phone which wraps around the wrist like a fitness band.

The device has specs that better match those of a basic phone. It comes with 1GB of RAM and 8GB internal memory, powered by a 500mAh battery. A 4-inch 960x192 flexible OLED screen is wrapped around your wrist as you are wearing it. The flexible sceen is manufactured by Visionox and it is protected by a heat-resistant polymer called Polyimide. The entire device is also water-resistant.

The device has also a 5MP front-facing camera and runs on Qualcomm's Snapdragon Wear 2100 chipset. Nubia suggests the device will last 1-2 days of regular use, or a week on standby.

The device uses uses eSIM technology and allows you to call and text, use apps and the internet, without a connection to a smartphone. It runs on Nubia's own operating system, which supports air controls - basic controls such as scrolling by using hand gestures.

You can also use the Alpha as a fitness tracker, since it offers functions like heart rate monitoring and sleep tracking. It can also store and play music, using the Nubia Pods, wireless earphones launching along with the Nubia Alpha.

There are two versions of the device launching – Bluetooth and eSIM models. The Bluetooth model will launch for €449 in Europe, North America and China, sometime in the second quarter of the year.

The eSIM versions will be available in April in China and in later in Europe and North America. The black version will cost €549, and a 18K "gold" version would cost you €649.
