Silicon Motion Showcases New SM2262 SSD Controller at Computex

Silicon Motion Showcases New SM2262 SSD Controller at Computex

PC components Jun 2,2017 0

Silicon Motion unveiled the new SM2262 PCIe 3.0 x4 / NVMe 1.3 SSD controller at Computex, set to reach products starting from the third quarter of 2017.

The high-performance chip supports 5 NAND channels with 32CEs, including 3D NAND. It supports DDR3/DDR3L/LPDDR3/DDR4 cache and Silicon Motion's 4th generation LDPC. The conttroller supports sequential read/write speeds of up to 3,200 / 1,700MB/s, 4K random reads at up 370,000IOPS, and 4K random writes at up 300,000IOPS.

The company also announced the "SM2263XT" PCIe 3.0 x4/NVMe 1.3 SSD controller. This chip has a DRAM cache-less configuration and will power entry-level SSDs. However, it supports the Host Memory Buffer (HMB) feature, which allows an SSD to request exclusive access to a portion of the host system's RAM for the drive's private use, resulting in an overall performance boost.

The SM2263XT supports sequential reads up to 2,200MB/s, sequential writes at 1500/s, 4K random reads at 250,000IOPS, and 4K random writes at 220,000IOPS. It supports 4-channel / 16CE NAND plus 3D NAND. The controller will power M.2 and PCIe BGA SSDs.

Application Performance Class 2 (A2) SD card controllers

Silicon Motion had also on display an Application Performance Class 2 (A2) SD card controllers, compatible with the recently released
SD Physical 6.0 specifications.

A2 performance ensures a random read speed of 4,000IOPS and higher, a random write speed of 2,000IOPS or higher, and a sequential access at least at 10MB/s.

The SM2705EN controller supports low voltage Signaling (LVS), 3D MLC/TLC NAND memory at a maximum capacity of 2TB and 1-ch/4CD flash interface.

A second controller (SM2705EN) has the same characteristics bit supports an 1-ch / 8CE interface.

SD card based on these new SD card controllers will appear in the third quarter 2017.
