Calling Dick Tracy ? We Have your Watch

Smartphones Sep 29,2006 0

Information is just coming out on the Caller ID wristwatch. This analog/digital watch will use Bluetooth wireless networking to allow users to view incoming caller ID information. Now, before you say -who needs this? - remember, it isn't about what we need - it is about what is really cool. In addition, this device will tell you when your phone rings and when a text message is received. It will also allow users to easily mute or reject an incoming call with single button press when they are unable to answer their phone.

When a voicemail or text message is received, users will be alerted by an icon of an envelope that will appear on the watch. This will be accompanied by a slight vibration. Fossil is partnering with Sony Ericsson on the launch of this new accessory. "Combining Fossil's fashion and watch expertise with Sony Ericsson's Bluetooth technology expertise helped us to create a smart, dynamic and fashionable watch that keeps you connected in all situations and eliminates the need to fumble through your pocket or handbag each time someone calls," said Bill Geiser, Vice President of Watch Technology at Fossil.

Other Features

Additional features of this watch will include a two-hand analog face, out of range warning (after 10 meters the watch vibrates when phone goes out of range), view phone's time/date, simple two-button auto pairing operation, bright OLED display, reject/mute incoming calls (one button push mutes the phone's ringer, two button pushes rejects the call), water resistant to 3 ATM, and compatibility with most Sony Ericsson Bluetooth phones.

The watch will also feature a lithium rechargeable battery that lasts approximately 5-7 days based on conditions of use. The battery will be rechargeable through a USB or universal AC adapter.

The new Bluetooth watch will be available under two different brand names: Fossil and Abacus.
The Fossil version will be available exclusively in the United States at fossil.com. It will cost $250 and will be available in late October.
The Abacus MobileWear watches will be released in the U.S. through CompUSA, in Germany through _dug Telecom AG, and in the U.K. through Widget UK. A full list of retailers is available at AbacusWatches.com.
