Siemens as expanded its relationship with the Georgia Institute of Technology's Georgia Electronic Design Center to include the creation of next generation wireless 3G products and applications. Siemens Communications is providing financial support to the center to enhance its ability to create next generation voice, wireless data and IP-based multimedia subsystem (IMS) applications for Siemens' U.S. customers. In addition, Siemens is donating a variety of 3G wireless network infrastructure equipment and technology.

Next-generation applications range from high-speed Internet access and wireless audio and video for business customers as well as services including high-resolution digital image transfer, full-motion video, presence, and location-based services, fixed mobile convergence, voice over IP, and advanced interactive gaming.

The project is now in its second phase and may include future joint research efforts involving other Siemens Communications research and development facilities as well as educational seminars featuring Siemens engineers at Georgia Tech.
