Samsung In Talks To Buy QD Vision

Samsung In Talks To Buy QD Vision

Consumer Electronics Nov 22,2016 0

Samsung Electronics has been in talks to take over QD Vision, a U.S. company specialized in quantum-dot (QD) materials, for $70 million, in am move to secure competitive edge in the premium TV market. According to industry sources in S. Korea, Samsung recently participated in a bidding procedure for QD Vision and was selected to negotiate with the U.S. company first, as other Korean and Chinese companies were interested for a bid (Chinese government-backed NaJing, BOE, Nanosys, Basf)

An agreement between Samsung and QD Vision is expected very soon.

Samsung is trying to accelerate the development of QLED (QD LED) that is positioned as a next-generation display capable of competing OLEDs.

Samsung was the first company in the world to mass-produce and apply film-type QD materials to premium SUHD TVs.

QD Vision holds significant expertise in the cadmium QD field and has also started researching into non-cadmium QD. The company was established by a researcher who graduated from MIT and succeeded in applying LED to QD in 2006. It supplied QD films to China?s TCL and worked with Sony in 2013 in developing QD TVs. QD Vision also formed an agreement with LG Display in 2010 regarding development of QD technologies.
