Plasmon announces multi drive support for DVD/CD libraries

Plasmon announces multi drive support for DVD/CD libraries

Optical Storage Jan 31,2003 0

Plasmon, The leader in professional data archival solutions, today announced the integration of multi-function DVD/CD drives (a.k.a. Multi Drive) across their entire range of DVD and CD libraries. Both the Enterprise D and the new D-Series product families will begin shipping with Multi Drives starting March 3, 2003. Each Multi Drive is capable of reading and writing DVD-R, DVD-RAM, DVD-RW, CD-R and CD-RW formats. The new D-Series libraries have received other significant upgrades and improvements including a standard LVD interface, which provides greater SCSI cable length. The new D-Series library comes with a burgundy colored front door, the same color as the recently released Enterprise D.

D-Series library slot counts and capacities continue to range from 80 slots/376GB to 480 slots/4.1TB of DVD media and the Enterprise D continues to scale from 750 slots/7TB to an industry leading 2175 slots/20TB.

"Multi Drives are designed to support a broad range of optical media which makes our storage solutions even more flexible and cost effective. Customers can now choose between multiple formats without concern for the drive type in the library," said Shawn Klein, Director of Optical Product Marketing for Plasmon USA. "Users of DVD-R media will be especially pleased to see a price reduction due to the introduction of the new Multi Drives, as well as the improved recording speeds. Both the Enterprise D and the new D-Series libraries continue to deliver the most cost effective, scalable and flexible DVD/CD storage solutions in the industry."

Support for Plasmon’s D-Series libraries, from key partners and major Independent Software Vendors (ISV's) includes ADIC, Fuji Medical, GE Medical, Hitachi Medical, IXOS, K-PAR, KOM Networks, Legato Systems, Pegasus, PoINT Software, Philips Medical, QStar, SGL, Seven Ten Software, Siemens Medical, Toshiba Medical, and Tivoli.
