Pioneer DVR-SK12D Dual DVD±R recorder - Page 13

KProbe PI/PO quality results

In the following screenshots you can see the PI/PO error rate graphs with various DVD-R/+R and DVD-RW/+RW, recorded with the Pioneer DVR-SK12D at the maximum speed.

The software we used for the measurements is the KProbe v1.1.26, and the reader is LiteOn LDW401S. The reading speed was set to maximum, while the ECC was set to 8.

The specific methodology is very dependent on the drive we use as a reader, and the reliability of the PI/PO provided output is also not technically confirmed. As a result, we cannot safely come up with absolute results, but we are allowed to compare the behavior of the drive with various DVD recordable/rewritable media.

The recordable discs we used came from Mitsubishi Chemicals, Philips, Ricoh, Ritek, Princo, Maxell and Taiyo Yuden. More information about each disc type is available at the bottom of the page.

  • Mitsubishi Chemicals 4x DVD+R

  • Mitsubishi Chemicals 8x DVD+R

In this test, the disc from Mitsubishi Chemicaks supports up to 8x writing speed, we wrote at the maximum speed supported by the drive, namely 2.4x, the results were quite satisfactory, with a relatively low error rate.

  • Philips 4x DVD+R

  • Ricoh 4x DVD+R

  • Ricoh 4x DVD+RW

In this test, the disc from Ricoh supports up to 4x writing speed, we wrote at the maximum speed supported by the drive, namely 2.4x, the results indicate a somewhat increased error rate while being inside the specifications.

  • Mitsubishi Chemicals 4x DVD-R

As in the previous case, the error rate is a little high with Mitsubishi Chemicals 4x DVD-R discs, however it is still within the specifications.

  • Ritek 4x DVD-R

  • Princo 2x DVD-R

The specific media is probably not reccomended for the DVR-SK12D. The PI/PO error rate reached 1872. The specific disc is a 1x-2x DVD-R for data/video.

  • Maxell 4x DVD-RW

  • Taiyo Yuden 2x DVD-R
