Pearl 2 on the Horizon

Rumors are that RIM is going to release a follow up to its very successful BlackBerry Pearl. Although there has been no official word on when this is going to happen, recent rumors indicate this device will be launched in both Europe and the United States in September. The Pearl 2 is supposedly going to be released by the U.S. carrier AT&T during the first half of the month. Vodafone will reportedly introduce this smartphone in Europe, possibly on the same day. There is no word yet on what these carriers will charge for this device. Rumored Specifications According to the best, though unconfirmed, information on the Pearl 2, this will be RIM's second smartphone with Wi-Fi short-range wireless networking. It will also supposedly include a 3.2 megapixel camera, up from the 1.3 megapixel camera in the current model. This will be usable when the phone is in landscape mode, and will be accompanied by a brighter flash. In addition, the Pearl 2 will reportedly sport an external microSD card slot. The original Pearl's is internal. There have been reports that this device will be significantly thinner and smaller than the current one. Not everything is going to change. Like its predecessor, this upcoming model is expected to have a QVGA display and a SureType keyboard, not a full QWERTY one. This BlackBerry will supposedly support stereo Bluetooth headphones and Microsoft's streaming media technologies.
