"...Oak Technology and Mitsumi, today announced that Mitsumi is in volume production of an 8X CD-RW drive designed around Oak's OTI-9790 CD-RW controller. The high level of integration provided by the OTI-9790 allowed Mitsumi to develop a high performance, cost-effective drive, which meets the requirements for both line fit applications with major PC OEMs, as well as the retail market.

Oak's OTI-9790 is the one of the industry's most highly integrated and cost-effective CD-RW solution. Using a USB (1.1 or 2.0) interface, the OTI-9790 provides a cost-effective solution for the high volume CD-RW drive market.

Mitsumi's CD-RW drive offers a highly reliable 8X CD-R speed, 4X CD-RW speed with the power and performance of a 32X read speed. Mitsumi is the world's largest manufacturer of computer peripherals, with sales exceeding $2.5 billion. The company focuses on providing high-quality, affordable peripherals and devices, including CD-ROM and CD-RW drives. Mitsumi products are sold worldwide both to computer OEMs and through general distribution.

The OTI-9790 offers one of the highest integration and most cost-effective CD-RW solutions available, while enabling high performance with 8X writing and 32X reading capability.
