Micron Brings Phase Change Memory for Mobile Devices, Releases m4 mSATA SSD for Ultrabooks

Micron Brings Phase Change Memory for Mobile Devices, Releases m4 mSATA SSD for Ultrabooks

PC components Jul 17,2012 0

Micron Technology today announced an industry first with high-volume availability of its 45nm Phase Change Memory (PCM) for mobile devices, featuring 1-gigabit (Gb) PCM plus 512-megabit (Mb) LPDDR2 in a multichip package. Micron is the first company in the world to offer PCM solutions in volume production.

PCM provides enhanced boot time, simplifies software development and boosts performance with overwrite capability. It also provides very low power consumption and high reliability. In addition, the design-optimizing shared interface between LPDDR2 and PCM is fully compliant with JEDEC industry standards.

Micron's 45nm PCM solution is currently targeted for utilization in feature phones, with a future roadmap aimed at addressing smartphones and media tablets.

Crucial, Micron's global brand of memory and storage upgrades, also today announced the availability of the Crucial m4 mSATA Solid State Drive (SSD), designed primarily to address the emerging Ultrabook category.

The Crucial m4 mSATA SSD delivers the same performance of the Crucial m4 SSD in a drive one eighth the size. Because of its tiny mSATA form factor, the Crucial m4 mSATA SSD can be mounted to an mSATA-enabled motherboard to serve as a primary storage in ultrathin laptops or act as a cache to complement the performance of an existing hard drive. Available in 32GB, 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB capacities with MSRPs of $52.99, $80.99, $121.99, and $225.99, respectively, the Crucial m4 mSATA SSD can be purchased now.

The Crucial m4 mSATA SSD features sequential read speeds up to 500MB per second and offers inherent power savings, durability, validation for Intel Smart Response technology and Dataplex caching software from NVELO.

The Crucial m4 mSATA SSD is featuring the same controller technology, Micron custom firmware, and synchronous MLC NAND also found in the Crucial m4 SSD and is backed by a limited three-year warranty.
