- CD Format

The LiteOn SOSW-852SX supports a maximum reading speed of 24X for CD-R and CD-RW media. What follows are the results of the LiteOn SOSW-852SX's performance compared with the other two drives:

In the above graphs we can see that there is not much between the three drives. The LiteOn SOSW-852SX was only marginally slower than the other two with pressed CD and CDR media but faster with USRW media.

- DVD Format

Using Single Layer media and Pressed OTP (Oposite Track Path) dual layer DVD ROM media, the LiteOn was slightly faster. With PTP (Parallel Track Path) Dual Layer media, the Pioneer drive gave the fastest results while the LiteOn drive was a good deal slower reading this media type.

In general, the LiteOn drive displayed very good reading speeds with all the formats. The NEC ND-6500A was not that much slower while the Pioneer DVR-SK12D lagged behind.

Finally, in the DVD ripping test using a pressed DL movie, the LiteOn drive follows on in the tradition of LiteOn drives, with the fastest transfer rate, and hence, fastest DVD ripping...
