LG Releases New Glasses-free 3D Monitor With Eye-tracking Technology

LG Releases New Glasses-free 3D Monitor With Eye-tracking Technology

PC components Jul 12,2011 0

LG today announced the DX2000, a new 20" LED Backlight 3D Glasses-Free monitor that comes with an integrated Web Camera that will track your movement in order to offer a better 3D experience. The monitor is based on the The Pallallax Barrier technology to deliver 3D images. A parallax barrier is placed in front of the 20" LED Backlight display and allows it to show stereoscopic content without the need for the viewer to wear 3D glasses. The viewers' eyes see a different set of pixels, so a sense of depth is created.

However, a disadvantage of the parallax barrier technology is that the viewer must be positioned in a well-defined spot to experience the 3D effect. LG claims that it has managed to overcome that by applying the "Eye Tracking technology". The monitor includes a web camera in order to track viewers' eyes in real-time and fine-tunes the 3D images regardless of the position of the viewer.

LG also fitted its DX2000 with the usual 2D to 3D conversion technology and will be put on the market in S. Korea at around 1.29 Million Won ($1,210). The monitor will be also introduced in other markets around the world in later this year.
