Instagram will soon start displaying photos on the site and within its smartphone and tablet apps in full 1080p high definition. At the moment, images uploaded are in a quality of just 640x640 pixels. However, flagship phones have now moved past HD to qHD, Instagram is also on desktop and mobile internet speeds are much better.

The update is rolling out across Instagram slowly but new images uploaded to the platform are already being accepted in the higher resolution.
