Cyberlink and Microsoft collaborate to deliver MP3 creation and DVD Decoder Add-On packs for Windows XP

Cyberlink and Microsoft collaborate to deliver MP3 creation and DVD Decoder Add-On packs for Windows XP

Optical Storage Jul 17,2001 0

CyberLink announced today that it is collaborating with Microsoft to deliver two new add-on packs for Microsoft's upcoming new operating system release, Windows XP. CyberLink will provide Power Packs for Windows XP, optional plug-ins that will enable the new Windows Media Player for Windows XP to create high quality MP3 files directly from user CDs and provide playback of DVD movies and MPEG-2 videos. Microsoft will provide users with links inside of Windows Media Player to CyberLink web pages to purchase the Power Packs.

"We are very excited to be partnering with Microsoft to provide these powerful enhancements for the new Windows Media Player for Windows XP," stated Alice H. Chang, CEO of CyberLink Corp. "Our new MP3 and DVD XP Power Packs, when combined with Windows Media Player's already formidable digital recording and video streaming capabilities, will truly provide Windows XP users the best MP3 experience available of any operating system, as well as the highest-quality DVD playback possible on the PC."

"With the availability of CyberLink's MP3 Power Pack for Windows XP, users of Windows Media Player for Windows XP will now have a choice of adding MP3 recording support." States Joe Monastiero, VP of Global Sales at CyberLink, " Windows XP users with a DVD drive can enjoy CyberLink's industry-leading DVD playback from within Windows Media Player when they install the DVD Power Pack for Windows XP plug-in, which will provide full-screen video controls for DVD playback, and easy access to rich DVD information like cover art, chapter listings, and actor and director credits. DVD support does require a DVD drive installed in the PC."

CyberLink will offer end-users three Power Packs for Windows XP: an MP3 encoder plug-in module that will allow users to easily rip their CDs to high quality MP3 files, a DVD module that will allow end users to playback DVD movies from within Media Player and a Combo Pack that will provide both plug-ins. The DVD module is based on CyberLink's award-winning standalone DVD software player, PowerDVD. Pricing for the Power Packs was not finalized at press time. Up-to-the-minute information about the XP PowerPacks can be found at http://www.gocyberlink.com/english/products/powerdvd/winxp_plugin.asp
