The retail kit comes rather packed, but without any microSD (as most action cameras). The design of the retail package follows exactly what Akaso has used in the past with other products (Brave 7 & 8 series), the top area is transparent for users to view the action camera, while in order to open the box you need to cut it down, so you will understand that you are getting a genuine and new product.

Several information is printed at the back of the box, with some specifications.

Opening the box unveils more information on how to remove the action camera (it does take some effort to remove, dont be afraid).

In the Box you will find

  • Brave 8 Lite camera
  • Camera frame
  • Remote control (wrist strap style; splashproof)
  • Dual battery charger
  • 2× 1550 mAh batteries
  • USB cable
  • Helmet/handlebar mounting accessories
  • Adhesive pads, tethers, and additional mounts
  • Lens cloth and small tool/spanner

The included remote control is splashproof Only, not waterproof and can be weared as a watch to quickly handle the major function of the camera. Its charged via Type-C as well.

We removed the external plastic housing to get a closer look at the camera.

The Akaso Brave 8 Lite action camera itself is small, it has a 64 × 45 × 35 mm dimensions and 114g weight.

At the front, you will find only the Akaso logo, a small square TFT screen 1.22" and the lens that has F/2.8 aperture and a FOV 150°. The Brave 8 Lite action camera boasts an IPX8 waterproof rating, allowing submersion up to 10 meters (33 feet) deep without an external case. There is also the option to buy an external plastic case to boost waterproof performance up to 30-40m.

At the top you will find two buttons, power on/off and record shutter-confirm.

At the left side there is a latch that allows to insert the microSD card and supports memory cards with speed U3 or higher up to 512GB and a Type-C port to connect external microphone that Akaso sells at their website.

On the right side, you will one button with a rubberized membrane that can be used to quickly power up the camera.

At the back, there is a 2" TFT touch screen that can be used to control the device. and two LED indicators when charging the device, and a working indicator.

Lastly, at the bottom, there is the battery clutch that can be used to insert the device batteries. The camera does not record sounds when it is in the waterproof case.

The product comes with two 1350mAh batteries and a TypeC charger (charges one at a time). There is also a remote infrared controller that can work with the camera to record video/pictures and shut down the device. There is also a Type C cable for charging the batteries. Both batteries take around 3hours to charge.

Akaso also sells a Metal camera Frame that can be used for even tougher situations. Installation is pretty simple.

For our tests, Akaso send us their own version of microSD card,

that comes pre-formatted at exFAT format with around 58.90GB of free space. Users can add up to 512GB of microSD product, according to the official specifications.

The reading/writing performance is very good for action camera use
