Legacy Electronics' New Point Seven DDR Memory Module First to Provide 1GB Density in Low, 0.7-inch Height; Eliminates Need to Angle DIMMs to Fit

Design engineers working with low-profile, space-limited applications now have additional space-saving, ECC-registered memory module options from Legacy Electronics. These options are particularly timely for the emerging blade server or embedded computer applications markets.

First to be introduced in the new Point Seven(TM) ECC-registered Dual In-line Memory Module (DIMM) product line is a 1GB low-form-factor, JEDEC-standard Double Data Rate (DDR) DIMM. The 0.7-inch-high DDR DIMM is mounted vertically into low-form designs, obsoleting the need to tip DIMMs at a 25-degree angle to fit.

The benefits of using Legacy's Point Seven(TM) DDR are many. Memory controller net lengths are reduced, more airflow results, and more memory slots can be designed into system boxes.

Kelvin Marino, Legacy's director of application engineering and new product development, said: "This Point Seven(TM) DDR module is a result of combining our more modern design tools with new smaller support components. It combines the speed of DDR with low profile technology to ultimately provide higher DRAM density."

Marino continued: "Engineers can now get 1GB or 2GB, 184-pin mount DDRs that cut form factor height almost in half. Industry standard DDR DIMM height averages 1.2 inches, while the new low-profile DDRs are 0.7 inches."

Future Plans

Legacy Electronics' CEO, Jason Engle, added: "We're excited about this new development and anticipate introducing DDR2 modules in the Point Seven(TM) product line shortly. Then, incorporating our patented Canopy(TM) technology, we will offer both DDR1 and DDR2 Canopy(TM) modules, in 1GB and 2GB densities, with the 0.7-inch printed circuit board height."
