LG CNS, a Korean firm engaged in software development and information technology outsourcing, will partner Microsoft for the development of gesture recognition-based solutions and smart cloud-based solutions for the global market. Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer and LG CNS CEO Kim Dae-hoon were met today at the InterContinental Seoul COEX and agreed to jointly develop cloud computing solutions and advance motion-recognition technologies. The comapnies had already signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in 2010 to cooperate in the next-generation areas of cloud computing and enterprise computing solutions.

Joint workshops for engineers are expected to start as early as the second half of this year, LG CNS said.

Earlier in the day, during a keynote speach at the Seoul Digital Forum, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer described the user interface and cloud computing as the most exciting and interesting technologies worldwide.

Ballmer also promoted Microsoft's upcoming Windows 8 operating system and added that by the end of 2012, there will be be 350 million devices running Windows 7, the company's latest OS. The company hopes that Windows 8 will be a "game changer" and will have the same success, following the strong momentum of Windows 7.
