Tesla Releases New Wall Connector with NEMA 14-50 Plug

Tesla Releases New Wall Connector with NEMA 14-50 Plug

Enterprise & IT Jan 16,2019 0

Tesla is launching a new Wall Connector with a NEMA 14-50 plug for home charging of Tesla vehicles.

While most home charging station manufacturers sell products to be both hardwired and to plug into a NEMA 14-50 outlet, Tesla has stuck to its hardwired Wall Connector.

A Tesla 14-50 Wall Connector is a charging solution with an existing NEMA 14-50 outlet. Offering a 25 percent faster charge compared to the Gen 2 Mobile Connector, the 14-50 Wall Connector is easy to use and to install around your home or office.

For people who already have a NEMA 14-50 outlet within reach of their parking spot, they can utilize an existing NEMA 14-50 outlet for an easy installation, no electrician required.

Tesla says the new connector provides 40 amps (9.6kW) of power for all Model S, Model X and Model 3 Long Range vehicles. Model 3 Mid Range and Standard Range vehicles will charge at 32 amps when using the 14-50 Wall Connector.

The new version of the Wall Connector comes with a dedicated 24' cable and is available for $500 - the same price as the hardwired version.
