Sony Introduces Advanced DVD And Audio/Video Component Line With HDMI Digital Interface

Sony Introduces Advanced DVD And Audio/Video Component Line With HDMI Digital Interface

Consumer Electronics Jan 9,2005 0

HDMI Equipped DVD Recorder with Hard Disc Drive to Debut Signaling the next step in the shift from an analog to a digital world, Sony Electronics today announced a new line of home audio and video products featuring HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) circuitry. The new components provide a single-cable, all-digital high resolution video and multi-channel audio interface for linking them with digital displays.

The 2005 line will feature a dozen HDMI home A/V products, ranging from entry level DVD players to DVD changers, DVD recorders, DVD Dream Systems, Home Theater in a Box bundles and high-end A/V receivers.

"Building on the success of our first HDMI DVD player last year, this new product line extends our leadership in high definition and commitment to providing consumers the best digital component performance," said Phil Abram, vice president of marketing for Sony Electronics' Home Audio and Home Video Components Division. "HDMI components deliver the full power of digital video and multi-channel audio completing the all-digital home theater with a simple, one-cable connection. HDMI is a perfect complement to Sony's rapidly growing base of high definition products including the latest LCD televisions introduced during this year's CES."

Capitalizing on Sony's DVD recorder leadership, among the 2005 HDMI product to debut is the RDR-HX715 DVD recorder with a hard disc drive and HDMI output. The unit incorporates a 160GB hard drive and broad media compatibility with DVD+R/+RW/-R/-RW and +R double layer disc compatibility for larger recording capacity.

The RDR-HX715 model also features a TV Guide On Screen interactive program guide making it easy to find and record programming without monthly fees. Other highlights include HQ+ High Bit Rate Recording Mode and D-Matrix Noise Reduction System for enhanced image quality, a Quick Response GUI and Fast Playback with Sound.

The RDR-HX715 will be available in September for about $700
