Sony on Monday unveiled a new game lineup for Playstation 4 including virtual reality games, the expansion of the Vue streaming TV service to Los Angeles and San Francisco, a new media player for PS4 and more. Game Lineup

The Japanese entertainment titan boasted an array of games for exclusive play on PlayStation 4, along with other that wil lbe also available in the rival Xbox One system.

PlayStation is the new home for the blockbuster "Call of Duty" franchise due to an alliance with video game publisher Activision.

Sony Studios is also expanding the science fiction shooter world of its "Destiny" video game centered on seemingly limitless online play. A "Taken King" sequel is on its way.

Other blockbuster titles promised PlayStation 4 lovers included "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End" due out early next year along with a resurrected "Last Guardian", "Hitman", "Star Wars", and a "Final Fantasy Seven" remake.

The Last Guardian, a much-delayed project by Team ICO, features an oversize creature that looks like a hybrid of an eagle and cat. The animal has a touching, protective relationship with a young boy who clambers atop its feathery mane. The game will be released next year.

Another whimsical game was called "Dreams", which its developer, Media Molecule, described as a kind of design tool for helping people reconstruct their dreams. Based on the early demonstration of the game, it wasn’t totally clear how easy it will be for people to do that.

Also teased was a new video "Horizon Zero Day" video game set in a future where cities have died, nature has reclaimed the world, and tribes of people fight robotic foes.

Sony also breezed through a presentation on Project Morpheus, as the company’s upcoming virtual reality headset is known. It did not conduct an onstage demo of the device, which is not coming out until the first half of next year.

Sony said its Morpheus VR headset, which runs on the PS4, can be used in a four-player game. However, a Sony spokeswoman said only one player could wear the headset-the others would play with standard controllers and see the game on the TV. Sony announced about a half-dozen titles for the headset. Sony also played trailers for upcoming VR games, including "Rigs," a gladiatorial multiplayer esports-style shooting game, and "Eve Valkyrie," an outer-space dogfighting game.

PlayStation Vue

Sony began selling PlayStation Vue, its cloud-based TV service, to customers in Los Angeles and San Francisco on Monday.

With Los Angeles, Vue is now available in four of the five largest U.S. cities. The package, starting at $49.99 a month, is also available in Chicago, New York and Philadelphia. The product features more than 50 channels of live television, including three major broadcast networks and most popular cable channels. A major holdout is Walt Disney Co., and its ABC, ESPN and ABC Family.

With the click of a button, the Vue will record all future episodes of a show in a cloud DVR, so users don’t have to spend time searching or scheduling recordings.

Vue also recommends shows based on past viewing habits, a feature available on Netflix.

With Vue, Sony is competing with traditional cable-TV providers such as Comcast, as well as online-only entrants like Dish Network’s Sling TV and Verizon Communications’s Custom TV.

Media Player

Sony has also made available for download from PlayStation Store the Media Player for the PS4. A Media Player icon will appear in the PS4 content area, elect the icon and you will be taken to the PS Store where you can begin the download.

The Media Player works with both your home server and when plugging a USB stick with media into one of the available ports on the PS4. Your home server will appear as a media option in the player automatically and finding your media is quick. You may also simply enjoy music as background music on your PS4.
