Opera Software releases browser SDK for Microsoft Windows CE

Opera Software releases browser SDK for Microsoft Windows CE

Consumer Electronics Oct 4,2006 0

Devices running on Windows CE can now quickly integrate the fast and full-featured Opera browser to deliver the full Internet or to create Web applications, widgets and dynamic user interfaces. Opera Software today announced availability of the Opera 9 SDK for Devices running on the Microsoft Windows CE platform, broadening Opera's availability to include the popular device software platform.

Opera's advanced Web rendering and navigation technologies enable the Web to be dynamically adapted to deliver a fantastic user experience to a wide range of device types. With Opera's existing port and integration API for Microsoft Windows CE, device manufacturers can quickly and easily get Opera up and running on devices ranging from portable media players and remote controls to set-top boxes and automotive infotainment systems.

"This is exciting for Opera as Windows CE has become a popular platform for connected devices," says Scott Hedrick, Executive Vice President, Opera Software. "Device developers have discovered the benefits of Opera's great usability, performance and unique rendering technology and now it now comes in another Microsoft offering."

Opera's capabilities designed for devices include its Extensible Rendering Architecture (ERA), which tailors Web sites to fit in any screen size, fast JavaScript and rendering engines and a configurable and full-featured user interface. Opera easily enables dynamic AJAX applications. Opera's full suite of SDK offerings is continuously updated with pre-ported support for new architectures, thereby radically reducing time-to-market.

"We are thrilled that Opera has joined the Windows CE development community," said Jane Gilson, Director of Mobile and Embedded Group, Microsoft Corp. "Opera's browser for Windows Mobile has been well received and Opera can add tremendous value to the Microsoft Windows CE platform."
