News: EasyWrite (Mt. Rainier) and WAITEC Sfinx16 hardware tests

General Interest Jul 8,2002 0

Today, we post two more "hardware" reviews. CDRInfo tests worldwide first, in depth, the "Mt.Rainier" format with the use of EasyWrite test suite. In addition we test a new combo recorder from WAITEC with the codename "Sfinx16"... - EasyWrite Tests: The main elements of the Mt Rainier format are the physical defect management by the drive, the logical write addressing at 2K, the background formatting, the command set implementation and the compatibility and standards-compliance. All the Mt Rainier CD-ROM / CD-RW drives should be compliant to those specifications.

As being a leading testing center, we test for the first time, how Mt. Rainier is implemented from various manufacturers, with the use of Philip's EasyWrite test suite. Nine (9) drives are benchmarked with both normal and defect media under serious stretch and the results are very interesting!

- WAITEC Sfinx16: Waitec offers an attractive recorder with DVD playback solution for all those who need a combo device for fast and easy CD burnings and complete playback support for all the DVD formats. The Waitec SfinX 16 can write your CD media at 16x and playbacks your favorite DVD movie at fast and comes to compete other manufacturers with respective products like Philips and Toshiba. In our test results we compare the Waitec SfinX 16 with an already tested drive, the Toshiba SD-R1202.
