Kepler Goes Mainstream With New Nvidia GeForce GTX 650i Graphics Card

Kepler Goes Mainstream With New Nvidia GeForce GTX 650i Graphics Card

GPUs Oct 9,2012 0

Nvidia has just relased the GeForce GTX 650i GPU, a Kepler-based solution aimed at a market segment that AMD wasn?t adequately serving before, priced at $149. Available in 1GB ($149) and 2GB ($169) versions, the GeForce GTX 650i is positioned in between the Radeon HD 7770 and the Radeon HD 7850.

The GeForce GTX 550 Ti is based on the GK106 GPU we already met in the GeForce GTX 660 model, although some functional units are disabled - both SMXes and ROP/L2/memory clusters. The GTX 650 Ti has 768 CUDA cores and 64 texture units. NVIDIA has also disabled one of GK106's three clusters, meaning that the GTX 650 Ti will have less memory bandwith and ROP throughput than the GTX 660.

The GTX 650 Ti will ship at 925MHz with a memory clock clocked at 5.4GHz. The card has been given a TDP of 110W, which is 30W lower than the GTX 660. Idle power consumption on the other hand will be unchanged, with the GTX 650 Ti maintaining the GTX 660's 5W standard.

GeForce GTX 560 is currently going for almost exactly $150, making it direct competition for the GTX 650 Ti. Meanwhile the card will face AMD Radeon competition from the 7770, which is not as powerful as the GTX 650 Ti but retails for less than $119. And according to the frist reviews, the GTX 650 Ti is coming up short comapred to the 7850.
